Churches and cathedrals being part of our historic heritage are testimony to the fine craftsmanship that could be achieved in the absence of electricity, combustion engines and hydraulics. These buildings were originally the focal point of many communities; they are therefore often located in densely built up areas which means they can be difficult to photograph at ground level. Aerial photography conveniently overcomes that problem and gives a wider perspective of those magnificent buildings in their general surroundings. At a practical level, with the use of powerful telephoto lenses, close-up aerial photographs can provide useful information for structural inspection purposes.
